It has since evolved into the current top-tier restaurant, still family-run by owners Anja and Carsten Schmidt. Since 2004, Executive Chef Marco Müller has been responsible for the kitchen, with Dennis Quetsch serving as Chef de Cuisine. In 2020, the Michelin Guide awarded Rutz three stars — the only restaurant in Berlin to hold this distinction — and also awarded the Green Star for outstanding sustainable gastronomy. Almost all other restaurant guides also award top ratings. Since 2022, Rutz has undergone a major visual re-design under the direction of Berlin-based architect Prof. Gesine Weinmiller, presenting a timeless, minimalist-elegant look. Rutz is not only Berlin’s best restaurant but also ranks among Germany’s top fine dining restaurants.
